Old Age in a New Age

If you care about changing the culture of aging in Oregon to one that is person-directed and life- enriching, you won’t want to miss the September meeting of M.O.V.E., Oregon’s culture change coalition. We are excited to host this discussion session with Beth Baker, author of a newly- published book, “Old Age in a New Age: The Promise of Transformative Nursing Homes.” Baker, a freelance journalist and a regular contributor to the Washington Post Health Section and the AARP Bulletin, has received two Gold National Mature Media awards for her reporting on aging.

For her new book, Baker visited long-term care communities around the country and witnessed profound changes designed to create a better way to live in old age. Although Baker’s reporting focused on nursing homes, we encourage providers from all aging service settings to join us to hear excerpts from her book and examine the common themes that it explores: the universal longing for home; honoring individual choice; empowering staff; and creating community.

Participants will have the opportunity to purchase copies of Baker’s book at the event (by cash or check only, no credit cards accepted). A book signing will follow.
